EMS vs K-Packet: Which Korea Post Shipping Should You Pick?

Korea Post gives you two ways to ship internationally: EMS and K-Packet. From a store that ships both, here is the actual decision table.

The differences that matter

• Speed: EMS typically 5–10 days; K-Packet typically 10–30 days (carrier service standards, not guarantees).
• Weight ceiling: K-Packet stops at 2 kg; EMS carries far heavier parcels. A large toner-and-mask order often has no K-Packet option at all.
• Tracking: both are tracked end to end. You can tell which service you got from the number itself: EMS numbers look like E•••KR, K-Packet like L•••KR or R•••KR.
• Cost: K-Packet is substantially cheaper per parcel — it is the reason "free shipping over X" thresholds exist at Korean stores.

When the cheap option is genuinely fine

Under 2 kg, not time-sensitive, shelf-stable products (which is most of K-beauty): K-Packet is the rational choice. Pay for EMS or courier when the order is heavy, when you need it inside two weeks, or when it is December.
